The Fourth Meeting of the Sub-working Group on Rules of Origin for the ASEAN-CANADA Free Trade Agreement

  The Meeting is co-chaired by Mr. Aziz Sharkawi, Senior Principal Assistant Director, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia and Ms. Shezara Ali, Global Affairs Canada, Canada. Responsible officials from ASEAN Member Countries and representatives from ASEAN Secretariat Office are attending the meeting. Two officials from each of the Department of Trade and Myanmar Customs Department are joining the meeting virtually.     The meeting discussed the consolidated text of Rules of Origin such as ASEAN Proposal on Regional Value Contact (RVC) and Canada’s proposal on Focused Value Method pursuant to the non-paper by Canada, Accumulation, Materials Used in Production, Fungible Goods or Materials, Minimal Operations and revisit Wholly Obtained and Originating Goods Articles.

     The meeting is also discussing Origin Procedures (OP) such as Certification of Origin, Review Canada’s new proposal on Validity of the certification of origin/proof of origin and Suppliers, Penalties Article and Waiver of the Certification of Origin/Proof of Origin.
