National Export Strategy (NES)
National Export Strategy (NES) has been designed by the technical assistance of the International Trade Center (ITC) and financial support from GIZ since 2013. The main functions of the NES are export development and competitiveness.
The first phase of the NES (2015-2019) has been completed. It focused on four major themes: supply side, business environment, market entry and development aspects with the implementation of (11) sectors such as Rice, Pulses & Beans and Oil Seeds, Fishery, Textiles and garments, Forestry, Rubber, Tourism, Trade financing, Trade information, Quality management, Trade facilitation and Logistics.
The second phase of the NES (2020-2025) focus on the agriculture and manufacturing sectors and will be geared towards innovation and technology to diversify and increase exports. Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization, Ministry of Commerce is cooperating with relevant ministries, associations, donors and development partners for implementation of NES.

Among the 18 sectors, NES 14 sectors Plan of Actions (PoAs) have been finished designing processes collaboration with relevant stakeholders, public-private associations and are approved by the Cabinet. The Plan of Actions (PoAs) of Gems and Jewellery Sector and Handicrafts Sector have been designed by relevant ministries and associations and approval from the Cabinet is under processing.
NES sectors will be implemented by seeking appropriate budget sources such as government budget, private sector investment, public-private partnership (PPP) and donor of development partner’s assistances.
NES Sector Development Committees have been organized, composed of relevant Government and private sector representatives.
